Breathe your way to health & happiness

Mar 24, 2022

Our breath is the most important basic need for our human survival. We take our first inhale when we are born, and we take our last exhale when we die, and each inhale and exhale in-between MATTERS!

One of my yoga teachers in India once said; "The quality of your breath, determines the quality of your life."

When we are stressed, nervous or scared, our breath becomes short, shallow, rapid and we tend to breathe through our mouth. It speeds up our heart rate and it triggers a fight or flight response in our body.

In the path of yoga, there is a discipline called pranayama, Prana meaning life force, and ayama meaning to control or to restrain. To control the breath, is to control your nervous system which can get you out of fight or flight response, and activate your relaxation response, your rest and digest.

Introducing a breathing practice (pranayama) to your morning routine, you not only smooth your nervous system, but you also clean the 75,000 major energy lines that weave through your body.

Breath-work can help detox the body of toxins as well as release any trauma or stagnant energy that you might be holding onto.

We rarely pay attention to our breath, but it holds the key and can guide us into feeling more vibrantly alive! Your breath is the indicator of how the entire mind, body is going. All indigenous cultures knew that the breath is vitally connected to our life force.

So before reaching for your morning coffee, lay in bed or on the couch for 5-10mins and BREATHE!

If you are a member of my MINDFUL MOVEMENT MEMBERSHIP there are some breath-work sessions that will get you started so you can start to feel more alive and energised.

*If you have any contraindications, please message me before you get started so I can tailor a breath-work session suited to you.
