What are the 3 principles of mindfulness?
Feb 26, 2023
Living a mindful life is about living with awareness in the present moment. Life is precious, yet so many of us are walking around unconscious of what is really going on around us. We are constantly in a rush, ticking off our to do lists and wondering why we're constantly waking up exhausted.
It's time to wake up peeps and start living a conscious and mindful life. How do we do that? We can start by practising the 3 principles of mindfulness so we stop letting life pass us by while we live in reactions and in our heads.
Principle #1- Intention setting
It's time to get clear on your values and what you want for yourself in this life! Your hopes and dreams require you to set your intentions before you get out of bed so you stay focused on what it is you are creating for yourself and your family.
Starting your day with a clear intention can make all the difference in helping you stay centred and focused on what you want.
Joy
Peace
Connect with nature
Train my body and mind through exercise and meditation
Be present with my child
Call my Mum
Spend quality time with my partner
Read a book
Drink lots of water
Eat nourishing foods.
Principle #2- Attention
Where your attention goes, energy flows. You've heard that saying before, right? When you focus your attention on things that you don't want, the universe keeps giving you more of it! Umm no thanks! As shitty as things get sometimes, you really need to stay disciplined on where your mind wanders. Rather than noticing the shit show that may be unfolding in front of your eyes, turn your attention on all of your hopes and dreams. Write down everything you are already grateful for to shift your energy into a more positive state of being.
I am grateful for my beautiful body that houses my spirit
I am grateful for my bed
my garden
my dogs
my cat
I am super grateful for chocolate,
wine
the sun... You get it. Now that you're in a more positive state, now take your attention to the things you want to create more of and welcome into your life such as:
Peace
love
fun
money
freedom
deep connections
family
travel
inspiration
happiness
courage
laughter
Principle #3- Attitude
Being kind, Curious and non-judgemental is the secret to living a happy and fulfilled life. I remember when I met the Dalai Lama in Uluru, I was amazed at how childlike he was. He was curious about everything, like a child that's experiencing life for the first time.
His kindness penetrated through my entire being with a simple handshake as he looked into my eyes. The most important thing I noticed about him, was that he was absent of judgement. He loved everything and everyone unconditionally. You could feel it, and you could see it as he held an Anangu Elder's hand as he welcomed him to Country.
Your attitude determines how you view the world and it is your choice whether or not you see your glass half empty or half full. Life is teaching you in every moment and as painful as it gets sometimes, there is always something to be grateful for, and there is always an opportunity to grow and evolve.
It's time to be the change we wish to see in this world, and that starts with living a mindful life.
