Full Moon in Aries September 2026: How to Keep Working With the Energy

Maybe you woke this morning feeling a little precious. Tired, but in a way sleep didn't even touch the surface. Tender. Or maybe just different, like something shifted in the night.

Maybe the last few days brought irritation you couldn't explain, tears out of nowhere, a restlessness that wouldn't settle.

The moon was full last night. And the good news is, its work isn't finished. The days that follow are where the real integration happens.

What happened last night

The full moon in Aries peaked at 2:49am AEST on Sunday 27 September 2026 (12:49pm EDT on Saturday 26 September overseas).

It carried a few things worth knowing:

  • The Moon in Aries sat opposite the Sun in Libra — the axis of self and other.
  • It was the first full moon since August's eclipse season, so a lot that had been churning came to the surface.
  • The Moon sat close to Neptune, the planet of the veil, the dream and surrender. Neptune and Saturn are both retrograde.

You'll see it called the Harvest Moon in the northern hemisphere. Here on Gomeroi Country, September is known in contemporary Gamilaraay language resources as Maalinha-gil — Southwest Wind Month.

The name reflects what is happening on Country at this time, with maalinha describing the breezes and showers that come from the southwest, and -gil coming from gilay, meaning moon.

Rather than adopting the Northern Hemisphere name “Harvest Moon,” Maalinha-gil offers us an opportunity to turn our awareness back toward Country, noticing the winds, weather and seasonal changes unfolding around us.

What this full moon was asking of us

A full moon is a culmination. What's been growing quietly comes into the light, ready to be seen and released.

Aries is the spark. Raw life force. The "I am" that lived in you before the world taught you to shrink.

Across the sky, the Sun in Libra held the other side: relationship, harmony, care for others. Western astrology reads this full moon as the tension between the two, your needs and theirs. Autonomy and connection.

With Neptune beside the Moon, the fire was softened. The invitation wasn't to push. It was to let your will soften into something truer. Less "what do I want?" and more "what does my spirit want to move through me?"

What it lit up to be released: the identity built around survival. Over-giving as a way to stay safe. Making yourself small to keep the peace.

What it called back: your life force. Your voice. The self that existed before you learned to disappear.

Why the energy doesn't end last night

The full moon is a peak, not a finish line.

From here the moon begins to wane. Each night a little less light, until the next new moon. Think of it like the tide going out after a king tide. What came up doesn't vanish overnight. It settles, it softens, and slowly it leaves.

This waning time is for integration. Letting go. Rest. Composting what's done so something new can grow in its place.

It's also where most of us rush. We feel the full moon, then go straight back to doing. This is your invitation to slow down instead.

How you might be feeling now

The body often processes after the peak, not during it. Over the next few days you might notice:

  • Tiredness or heaviness, like you've run a long way
  • Tenderness, or crying more easily
  • Fogginess, or not being sure what you feel yet
  • Leftover irritation, especially in relationships
  • A quiet sense that something has ended

None of this means something's gone wrong. It's your nervous system coming down from a charge. Neptune's fog also means clarity may arrive slowly. Let it.

Your fire was never the danger. Losing it was. Now we tend it gently.

How to keep working with the Aries full moon energy

In the next few days:

1. Rest first. If you're tired, that's the practice. Sleep a little longer. Cancel what you can. Rest is how the body integrates.

2. Complete your release. If you wrote down what you were ready to let go of, come back to it. If you didn't, write it now. By hand. Then mark the ending: tear it up, bury it in the garden, or burn it, (which is my personal favourite, watching it go up in flames. It isn't magic. It's a signal to your nervous system that something is complete and released from your being.

3. Lengthen the exhale. In for four, out for six or eight. A few minutes, morning and night. The longer exhale helps your body settle after a big release.

4. Let feelings move, gently. If anger or tears rise, let them. Shake out your hands. Walk. Stamp your feet on the ground, punch a boxing bag. Energy that moves through doesn't get stored and suppressed.

Through the coming fortnight

5. Practise one small boundary. This full moon was about your needs mattering too. Choose one small place to honour that. A "not today." A pause before you say yes. Notice how your body feels when you do. If it tightens, or you feel heaviness in your chest, It's a hard no thanks.

6. Watch your relationships with curiosity. The Aries–Libra axis lives in how we relate. Notice where you shrink, where you over-give, where you feel resentment. No need to act on it yet. Just notice. The body is showing you where the edges want to be.

7. Ask the body what it needs. Hand on your chest or belly. Ask: What do I need right now? Wait for sensation before words.

8. Get your feet on the earth. Bare feet on grass, sand or soil. Spring is stirring. Let the ground hold what you're releasing and putting down.

9. Don't force clarity. If you still don't know what comes next, that's okay. The waning moon is for emptying, not planning. Space comes before the new beginning.

Even if you don't follow the moon

You don't need to believe in astrology for this to help. The moon is simply a rhythm, a mirror to pause and listen. Your body has its own tides. This is a way of paying attention to them.
